Name:Rodston and Pope's Cottage, Christow

Summary

Two adjoining cottages on the south side of Village Road, Christow. They date to at least the early-mid 19th century, based on cartographic evidence, but may have older origins. Originally part of a terrace of five small cottages depicted on the 1840s Tithe Map, by the mid-20th century, the northern dwellings were in ruins and were demolished at some time between 1950-1999.

The Christow Tithe Map shows row of five small, square houses in terrace here.

Depicted on the late 19th century historic map, with some alterations; additions to the rear at both the north-eastern end and to rear near south-western end.

The northern cottages can be seen roofless in this aerial photograph; not shown in later 1999 aerial image, by which time Wilsdene has been constructed.

North-eastern end of the terrace has not survived; only Rodston and Pope's Cottage are marked on the modern mapping. The surviving cottages appear otherwise unchanged from the early 20th century historic map depiction.
