Name:Bank or earthwork in Erme Wood

Summary

Probable enclosure bank work located 20 - 25m south of curvilinear earthwork. Bank extending north-west of boundary wall for 15m before turning sharply east. Defined to south by scarp clearly visible from the track. Maximum width is 3m, maximum height 0.5m. Both banks terminate with eastern boundary wall and are not visible extending into neighbouring field, presumably destroyed.

Berry, N. + Simmonds, T., 1996, An Archaeological Survey of Boro Wood (SX7571), Erme Wood (SX6357), Wistmans Wood (SX6177) and Newpark Waste (SX5961), EW07 (Report - Survey). SDV360518.

SX 63865758 Bank / earthwork. Probable enclosure bank work located 20 - 25m south of curvilinear earthwork. Bank extending north-west of boundary wall for 15m before turning sharply east. Defined to south by scarp clearly visible from the track. Bank is composed of earth and stone matrix (30% stone), with large stones prominent on northern arc, probably facing/footings. Maximum width is 3m, maximum height 0.5m. Both banks terminate with eastern boundary wall and are not visible extending into neighbouring field, presumably destroyed.
