Summary

The field names, Higher and Lower Rack Park, recorded on the Cadeleigh 19th century Tithe Apportionment suggest that there was a fulling mill nearby and that the washed and fulled cloth was hung in these fields to dry. The adjoining farm is called Mill Farm.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Plots 261 and 262 are called Lower and Higher Rack Park respectively, suggesting that there was once a fulling mill nearby. Plot 276, now Mill Farm, is named as Mill Tenement suggesting that the mill stood here although there appears to be no evidence of a mill today.
