Summary

Pit recorded during walkover survey in October 2005. A small shallow prospecting pit measuring just 3m in diameter with beech saplings growing upon it. A small spoil heap is present down slope. The feature is of local importance. Associated with Holne Park Mine (later South Park Mine).

Prospecting pit at SX 732694.
A small shallow prospecting pit dug by miners to locate the size, orientation, quality of ore lodes. This example measures just 3m in diameter and has beech saplings growing upon it. A small spoil heap is present down slope. The feature is of local importance. Other prospecting pits might be present but remain concealed by the dense vegetation. The feature should be excluded from new planting.
