Full description

Marchand, J., 2005, Archaeology within Meldon Woods, 2 (Report - Survey). SDV365060.

A large dry leat runs through Meldon Woods, from its take off point off the West Okement at SX5650 9285 and on through the woods. The dry channel is well defined and measures over 1m wide and up to 1.2m deep. This leat served the 40ft by 8ft waterwheel which was located at Minehouse Farm and associated with the mine workings there.
The area to the south of the river contains some tin streaming also connected with Minehouse Farm.
The leat and streamworking are important in the local context.
The clearing of saplings and other undergrowth along the dry bed and along the leat sides would enhance this feature as well as helping to conserve it.

Environment Agency WMS, 2020, Environment Agency LIDAR Composite DTM 2020 - 1m (Cartographic). SDV364513.

Visible on the lidar data, either side of the road.
