Summary

Dating to the later 19th century, based on cartographic evidence, these buildings were constructed as an adjoined pair of 'villa' style dwellings, although the northern property was extended shortly afterwards. Originally isolated dwellings, these are now surrounded to north, east and south by a modern estate.

Pair of houses named 'Fern Villas' depicted on the late 19th century historic map; a symmetrical joined pair of 'villa' style dwellings, to the north of Harrowbeer. At this time there are few other houses in the area.

By the time of the early 20th century historic map, the northern property has been extended and is shown as a square property. Named on map as 'Fern Bank'.

The modern mapping shows the pair of 19th century houses now entirely surrounded by modern dwellings. Named as 'Ferncote' to south and 'Ruskin House' to north.
