Full description

Not shown on the earlier Tithe Map, farm building is depicted on the late 19th century historic map.

Small farm building dating to between 1843 and 1885 based on cartographic evidence. Stone and brick built with corrugated iron roof.
Its original function is not certain. The east front is dominated by the flight of external steps. These would not be necessary for a stable or cattle house. They are commonly associated with granaries or cider houses. There is insufficient room here for the cider machinery so it may have been a granary over a storage cellar (maybe a buttery for cider barrels). This kind of arrangement would suit its situation close to the house but is wholly speculative.
It is an attractive vernacular building which plays an important role in the setting of both the house and farmyard which is still surrounded by traditional farm buildings

Ordnance Survey, 2023, Mastermap 2023 (Cartographic). SDV365227.
