Name:PILLOW MOUND in the Parish of South Brent

Summary

Zeal buries (8 pillow mounds). Extant. Group of well preserved pillow mounds on hillside above shipley car park. Sx67906308, sx68006318, sx68026322, sx68056325, sx67926328, sx67806327, sx68056351, sx68036334. Vis=-/4/1978 (robinson, r. ). A group of pillow mounds or rabbit buries known as zeal burrows on the north of brentmoor china clay works. Nine have been located. There are no vermin traps associated with this warren nor does there appear to be any attempt at enclosing wall. Vis=seven pillow mounds visible at sx68026332 (inside an enclosure), sx67936329, sx67916327, sx68016322, sx68026324, sx68016319 and sx67896308 visible on raf 1946 and nmr 1976 ap. Not all the pillow mounds are visible on the nmr ap (rchm app 1985). Vis=18/7/1977 (os). Situated immediately to the west of black tor, on a level plateau at 330m is an irregular enclosure consisting of a low rubble wall 4m wide on the east narrowing to 2m on the west and 0.3m in height. The ground inside the enclosure has been cleared of stones. Incorporated in the enclosure wall, and projecting slightly outside it, is a hut-circle of indeterminate type 1.10m in diameter (os).
