Summary

A post-Medieval lead alloy item was found in 2013; probably a leather worker's palm guard, measuring c. 65.5mm in diameter and c. 10mm in thickness. The fragment is sub-circular in plan; the section is convex; the base is flat. The guard would have been wrapped in leather or cloth, and then strapped to the hand to protect the palm when forcing needles through very coarse material. Retained by finder.

(Found 2013) A post-Medieval lead alloy item; probably a leather worker's palm guard, measuring c. 65.5mm in diameter and c. 10mm in thickness. The fragment is sub-circular in plan; the section is convex; the base is flat. The guard would have been wrapped in leather or cloth, and then strapped to the hand to protect the palm when forcing needles through very coarse material.
