Summary

Slotted gatepost, nr. Shipley. Extant, vertical slot type. Vis=-/1/1978 (robinson, r. ). A slotted gatepost of granite on the east side of the road gate into the field called 'tangs' os no 298 near shipley. It has three vertical slots corresponding to the 'double-slot' or 'slot- and-l' type slip bar gates according to the classification of r. H. Worth. Height of stone 130cm, width of stone 20cm, depth of stone at base 60cm tapering to 35cm. The stone shows signs of slot-splitting rather than the feather and tare method and is therefore probably older than 1800-1810.
