The pond is currently overgrown and is approximately 15 metres diameter. The field immediately north of the pond is the site of the medieval Netherexe Manor House, demolished in the mid-19th century. The pond is assumed to have supplied a former mill associated with the Manor of Netherexe. The pond is thought to have been supplied by a leat originating at Thorverton Mill weir and may well have supplied Netherexe Barton with domestic water. A nearby field is referred to as Mill Ham in an 1840 Estate document (see MDV133980).
