Full description
Casimiro, T. M., 2015, Portuguese Faience in South-West England, 345 (Article in Monograph). SDV365403.
Excavation (unpublished) of the back gardens of 37-9 Fore Street by Exeter Archaeology in 1985 yielded a series of groups containing numerous examples of Portuguese faience. The finds were sufficiently plentiful to suggest that this type of pottery must have occupied a significant role in the Totnes market. This particular block of tenements was the home of some of the town’s leading merchants, illustrating the common association of Portuguese faience with wealthy domestic sites.
