Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 73-74 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Two substantial adjoining buildings depicted on the 1840s Tithe Map fronting onto the road; plots 73-74 on the Chagford apportionment. The site of numbers 23 and 25 Lower Street was empty at this time.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map shows a new building has been added adjoining the existing structures at the north-eastern end, effectively filling in the gap. The existing buildings have been subdivided into smaller properties; divisions which appear to have been retained into modern times.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Similar to the late 19th century historic map depiction, except the large late 19th century building has now been divided into two dwellings; numbers 23 and 25 Lower Street.

Google, 2023, Google Streetview (Website). SDV365229.

Group of terraced houses along Lower Street with varied façades and roof heights. Numbers 13 - 17 are the shortest, height-wise and have matching stone built porches. 19 and 21 are a similar early-mid 19th century date and are larger. Numbers 23 and 25 were added in later 19th century as a single large dwelling, later divided. Evidence of alteration and later additions.

Ordnance Survey, 2023, Mastermap 2023 (Cartographic). SDV365227.

Series of buildings on Lower Street (number 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 and 25) depicted on the modern mapping.
