Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 81 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Depicted on the 1840s Tithe Map; part of a single huge dwelling fronting onto the road here (plot 81) with rear extension. No separate divisions shown but apportionment records 'Cottages and Gardens' with a range of owners (6) and occupiers (7) so it appears to have been separate dwellings despite the map depiction.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map shows separate buildings here, two dwellings are shown in this plot area, set at slight angles to one another to accommodate the curve of the road.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Similar to the late 19th century historic map depiction.

Google, 2023, Google Streetview (Website). SDV365229.

(Image date: May 2009) Pair of houses with almost symmetrical frontage and central gable-roofed dormer set into the roof (belonging to 36). Each house has a pair of windows outside the doorway which is offset centre below the dormer. Mixture of window types; number 34 has casements, while 36 has 6-pane sashes. Doorway to 36 has a 3-pane side light to left of door. Both rendered and painted white.
(Image date: August 2016) Number 34 has removed the render from frontage, exposing stonework construction, so the pair now look distinct from one another.

Ordnance Survey, 2023, Mastermap 2023 (Cartographic). SDV365227.

Numbers 34 and 36 Lower Street are depicted on the modern mapping. The layout appears largely similar to the historic map depictions, with a small extension on the rear of 34.
