Name:Crane base at Foggintor Quarry

Summary

Remains of a sub-square coursed granite crane base about 30m from the southwest entrance to the main part of Foggintor Quarry. It measures c.5m (northeast-southwest) by c.4.8m and is c.1.25m tall. It is located close to the southern side of tramway route MDV134435 and one of the crane's purposes may have been to load material into wagons using that part of the tramway system. May be marked on the historic map.

'Crane' is marked close to this location on the late 19th century historic map.

Crane base at SX 56640 73466. Remains of a sub-square coursed granite crane base about 30m from the southwest entrance to the main part of Foggintor Quarry. It measures c.5m (northeast-southwest) by c.4.8m and is c.1.25m tall. It is located close to the southern side of tramway route MDV134435 and one of the crane's purposes may have been to load material into wagons using that part of the tramway system. Either this crane base - or MDV134465 - appears to be depicted on the first edition Ordnance Survey map.
The crane base is very ruinous, but appears to be relatively stable. It has a thin coating of grass in places.
