Summary

Small stone-lined drain aligned northwest-southeast under track bed. Lower (southeast) end has been deliberately blocked up with stone rubble and the higher (northwest) end is partially obscured by turf. The interior measures about 0.30m (width) x 0.20m (height). A perpendicular stone of about 0.8m length, 0.13m thickness and 0.1m height was placed at a right angle to the western corner of the drain to guide in water from the drainage ditch along the higher side of the track bed.

Wakeham, C., 2016, Report on an Audit of Archaeological Features and Structures Relating to Railways and Tramways on Dartmoor Phase 1, DR+T_GWRP_015 (Report - Assessment). SDV360397.

Drain at SX 56792 73028. Small stone-lined drain aligned northwest-southeast under track bed. Lower (southeast) end has been deliberately blocked up with stone rubble and the higher (northwest) end is partially obscured by turf. The interior measures about 0.30m (width) x 0.20m (height). A perpendicular stone of about 0.8m length, 0.13m thickness and 0.1m height was placed at a right angle to the western corner of the drain to guide in water from the drainage ditch along the higher side of the track bed.
The feature is too obscured to give a reasonable assessment of its condition.
