Name:Quarry pit by railway tracked, Walkhampton Common

Summary

Small quarry dug into the northwest-facing slope of the moor on the southeast side of the Princetown Branch track bed. It lies c.4.5m from the track bed and has been dug to a depth of c.1m. It is roughly circular and measures, internally, c.3m in diameter. There are at least three tinners' pits (MDV28229) a little further down along the course of the track bed to the west. This particular excavation does not have the characteristic adjoining spoil heap although the feature is filled / obscured by bracken growth.

Quarry excavation at SX 55182 71232. Small quarry dug into the northwest-facing slope of the moor on the southeast side of the Princetown Branch track bed. It lies c.4.5m from the track bed and has been dug to a depth of c.1m. It is roughly circular and measures, internally, c.3m in diameter. There are at least three tinners' pits (MDV28229) a little further down along the course of the track bed to the west. This particular excavation does not have the characteristic adjoining spoil heap (lest it was obscured by the bracken).
The excavation is filled with reeds and bracken which is encroaching from all sides. There is a large puddle at the centre of the excavation.
