HER Number:MDV134556
Name:Possible drain under railway trackbed, Walkhampton Common

Summary

Apparent site of a blocked c.5.75m long drain running south-south-east by north-north-west under the Princetown Branch track bed. The telltale signs consist of opposing hollows (c.1m wide and up to 0.8m deep), on either side of the track bed, and a thin sliver of bright green grass in a slight indent on the lower side of the track bed (where the water flowed downhill from the drain's mouth). The higher (south-south-east side) should convey water from a drainage ditch/gutter which runs parallel to the track bed. Both ends of the drain are completely sealed up.

Drain (possible) at SX 54683 71016.
The drain is in a poor condition, being blocked off at both ends and causing an accumulation of water in the drainage ditch/gutter on the higher side of the track bed. The state of the interior is unknown.
