Name:Drain under railway trackbed, Walkhampton Common

Summary

Drain running south-south-east by north-north-west under the Princetown Branch track bed, measuring c.7.5m in length. It is lined with a c.0.30m diameter reddish-brown ceramic pipe. The higher (south-south-east) opening of the drain conveys water from a drainage ditch/gutter which runs parallel to the track bed.

Full description

SX 54631 70975. Drain running south-south-east by north-north-west under the Princetown Branch track bed, measuring c.7.5m in length. It is lined with a c.0.30m diameter reddish-brown ceramic pipe. The higher (south-south-east) opening of the drain conveys water from a drainage ditch/gutter which runs parallel to the track bed.
The drain is in a poor condition externally. The higher (SSE) end is partially obscured by encroaching bracken and the lower end is partially obscured by turf collapsing down upon it from the track bed.
