Drain at SX 54446 67883. Stone-lined and stone-faced drain running northeast-southwest under the Princetown Branch track bed. It was bonded with a light brownish-white/creamy white lime mortar. The interior of the drain (measured at the lower end) is 0.59m wide and it is 1.37m high - although the base has been eroded away and it was originally probably in the region of 1m in height. The main, covered, section of the drain is c.5.5m in length. It has rounded, splayed wing walls on the higher (northeast) side which extend the length of the drain a further c.0.9m in that direction. The outermost width of the splay of the wing walls is 1.7m, where it takes drainage water from a 0.7m deep open ditch. The ditch is 1.8m wide, narrowing to 0.8m at its base. There are perpendicular sloped wing walls on its lower (southwest) side which extend the length of the drain a further c.2.2m in that direction. The interior of the drain is part blocked by two c.0.55m diameter metal pipes which run across, side by side, at a right angle. The pipes are both painted black and one of them also has a blue dot painted on its side. Presumably they are old water mains. Some secondary light grey cement which was added to the drain interior is probably contemporary with the insertion of these pipes.
Part of the northern wing wall has collapsed and the adjacent large oak tree which was responsible, may cause more damage if and when it falls down. The floor of the drain has been considerably washed out at the lower end. Part of the western wing wall has collapsed and the southern wing wall is being undermined by erosion.
