HER Number:MDV13481
Name:Hollow way at Corringdon Ball

Summary

Extant. Integral part of parallel reave system. Vis=estimated -/-/1979 (robinson, r. ). A hollow way runs roughly north west south east across corringdon ball. It is related to the parallel reave system in the area, the alignments running parallel to it on the north east side and at right angles to the south west side (subject to confirmation by survey). The upper end appears to have been blocked in prehistoric period. It has been inspected by mr andrew fleming who considers it to be contemporary with the parallel reave system, and possibly represent access to the open moorland grazing beyond the reave system, from further to the south. To the south the hollow way fades on the southern slope of corringdon ball. The large boulders laid bare below the original ground level suggest that the way has been worn by the passage of cattle rather than carts.
