Summary

Farm building at Beetor, north-west of the Medieval longhouse. Recorded in 1989 survey as a bank bank. Remains of stable building (southern end) and butter well also noted. In 2005 survey the bank barn was roofed in corrugated iron and appeared in reasonable condition. 2015 aerial suggests it has since lost its roof.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 770 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Square farm building depicted on the Tithe Map, north-west of the farmhouse (recorded as partial remains of ruined stable in 1989). The bank barn recorded in 1989 is not shown on the Tithe Map.

Two square buildings shown on the late 19th century historic map; the stable structure near the dwelling and an additional barn building at the far north-western end of Beetor Farm.

Plan and elevation drawings of bank barn, as well as nearby remains of stable building (southern end) and butter well at Beetor Farm were produced in October 1989 at a scale of 1:50 (commissioned by Dartmoor National Park). The stable was located to the south-east of the barn, close to the northern end of the dwelling but little remained at the time of this survey.

Visited on 25/08/2005. Stone-built barn is roofed in corrugated iron and appeared in reasonable condition.
Remains of the ruined stable building not recorded.

2015 aerial shows the building (former barn) as unroofed. No sign of the remains of the stable due to vegetation / tree cover.

Modern mapping indicates the barn building, which is not indicated as roofless, so this may have been a temporary change.
