Full description

A group of fields called Freshwell on the Georgeham Tithe Apportionment (Plots 975, 1266, 870, 1257, 877, 910, 1021, 911 and 1127).

The narrow field plots and curving field boundaries of the the fields to the north of the lane suggests that they may be medieval in origin, part of a strip field system.

An assessment including a walkover survey was undertaken as part of an environmental assessment for the proposed location for the Croyde Sewage Treatment Works. Site A was divided into two narrow fields both named Freshwell (Fields 975 and 1266) in 1839. The name is indictive of the number of springs and issues that rise in the vicinity. No archaeological features are visible in the field.
