Full description

Buck, C., 2006, Gawton Mine, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 57, Figure 34 (Report - Assessment). SDV344672.

A Chimney is located at SX 45044 68801. The boiler house chimney is partially extant now approximately half its original height at 9.0 metres high. The chimney upper surfaces should be repointed and the walls capped. Other details: Site No. 60.1.

Clive Meaton, 2023, Gawton Mine, Devon- Costed and Prioritised Proposals for Capital Works for the Conservation and Management of Gawton Mine Scheduled Monument (Redacted Costs Version), 153-155, Photograph 89, Figure No. 7 (Report - Survey). SDV366131.

The Chimney attached to the Boiler House (Site No. 60) was located at SX 45055 68801 and would have been contemporary with the adjacent Pumping Engine House (Site No. 59) and formed part of the same complex. In 2006, it was recommended that the chimney should be repointed where appropriate, and wall heads capped.
During this survey, the lower half of the chimney survives relatively well and is readily interpreted. Vegetation clearance, structural repairs and monitoring should be undertaken. The location of the Chimney is based on the Site Plan Figure No. 7. Other details: Site No. 60.1.
