Full description

Unattributed, 2021, Restoring Stover Park. Archaeological Surveys. Lidar Assessment, Areas 6-7 (Report - non-specific). SDV366261.

Towards the eastern edge of Goilmoors Plantation and Area 6, overlapping Area 7, a roughly NNW-SSE aligned hollow is visible, roughly parallel to and intersecting an extant water channel that is depicted on the OS First and Second edition maps and current MasterMap. This is interpreted as the remains of a water channel that ceased to be used prior to circa 1840.

Passmore, A. + Rainbird, P., 2021, Restoring Stover Park. Report on Archaeological Surveys. (Report - Survey). SDV366260.

Walkover survey towards the eastern edge of Goilmoors Plantation identified a roughly north-northwest to south-southeast aligned hollow, roughly parallel to and intersecting an extant water channel that is depicted on the Ordnance Survey First and Second Edition 25" maps and the current MasterMap. This is interpreted as the remains of a water channel that ceased to be used prior to c. 1840. This is an irregularly-shaped channel, present to the north of the bank defining the north side of the ornamental canal. The feature appears to pre-date this bank. It therefore may represent a former watercourse, or a possible tinwork.
