Full description

Environment Agency, 2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Lidar visualisation (Cartographic). SDV366001.

A possible oval or teardrop shaped enclosure is visible defined by an earthwork bank.

Hegarty, C., 2025, Comment on Unlocking Landscapes project and related lidar and aerial photograph interpretations (Interpretation). SDV366411.

An earthwork bank up to approximately 5m wide is visible on images derived from lidar data defining an oval enclosure nearly 60m long and 33m wide, on the south-facing slopes to the south of Blegberry. The possible enclosure bank appears to predate the extant medieval field and track pattern and has been partly fossilised within it while reflecting changing patterns of land use. For instance, the enclosure was previously bisected by a track that was later rerouted around the earthwork's southern edge. The date of the enclosure is uncertain, but it may have later prehistoric or perhaps post Roman to early medieval origin.

Horner, B., 2025, Lidar interpretation (Personal Comment). SDV366415.

LiDAR appears to show a possible complete ovoid enclosure. Part fossilised in field/lane layout, with LiDR suggesting the banks have a different character to the rest of the field system. Also continuation of circuit on SE side, within field.
