A programme of archaeological work was undertaken along the route of a 13.5km long water main from Roborough to Yondertown. A previous geophysical survey had identified a number of areas likely to contain archaeological deposits.
A series of parallel linear ditches [1304], [1302] and [1300] was revealed in Area CP4 and which had been identifed in the geophysical survey. They run north-east to south-west, on the same alignment as current field boundaries. To the south-east of these was a group of pits [1163], [1165], [1167], two linear cuts [1167] and [1171] and a curvilinear ditch [1169]. To the south-east of this was a single pit [1176]. Pits [1163] and [1165] were sub-circular with stony and charcoal rich fills. Pit [1163] was 1.4m by 1.0m by 0.4m deep, Pit [1165] was 1.15m diameter and 0.2m deep. Ditch 1169 was 2.8m wide and 0.7m to 0.85m deep. No finds were recovered from the features. The size and curvilinear nature of ditch 1169 may suggest that it is prehistoric in origin.
