The field is under plough and the ponds are no longer present.

Brunning, E. + Freeman, J., 2023, Higher Hawkerland Farm, Aylesbeare, East Devon: Geophysical Survey (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV365870.

Archaeological Services ASWYAS has been commissioned by Pegasus Group on behalf of Spring Che Limited to undertake a geophysical survey at land at Higher Hawkerland Farm, Aylesbeare, Devon.

The geophysical survey has detected a number of magnetic anomalies associated with postmedieval agricultural practices, including former field boundaries, modern ploughing regimes and possible ridge and furrow cultivation or field drains. Overall, the archaeological potential of the Site is deemed to be low.

An anomaly group located within the centre of Field 7 corresponds to a series of former ponds visible on the 1888 OS mapping and remain in place on mapping as late as 1972 but have been removed prior to the earliest available satellite imagery dated 2002 (Google Earth 2023).
