Milestone shown on 19th century map as 'M.S Plymouth 17 Totnes 5' on the south side of the road to the southwest of Wonton Farm.

Milestone, extant. Not one erected by 1745, but 19th century. A granite milestone on the south side of the road from Totnes to Avonwick just uphill from Wonton Hill Copse. It is carefully dressed of triangular shape and bears traces of having been whitewashed and the lettering having been picked out in black. The apex of the triangle faces the road and the two faces are lettered as follows:- west facing "To Totnes 5 miles". East facing "To Plymouth 17 miles". Height 0.7 metres and width of face 0.35 metres. This milestone was put up by the Totnes Turnpike Trust some time in the 19th century at the same time as the new route was cut between Avonwick and the Carew Arms at Wrangaton.

Site visit 1st May 2004 and 15th October 2008. Granite milestone on the south side of the road to the northeast of the turning to Charford Manor Hotel. Erected by the Totnes and Berry Pomeroy Turnpike Trust circa 1765. The stone is inscribed 'To/Ply?/17/?/To/?nes/5/?'. Stone badly damaged due to location close to road edge. Resited in September 2008. Black paint residue in letters and numbers.
