Full description
Child, P., 1999, Stable at Spriddlestone House, Wembury (Correspondence). SDV366738.
A coach house and stable built of local rubble with brick dressings under a slate roof. It is of two periods. The older section, the original coach house is probably contemporary with the early 19th century Spriddlestone House. The newer section is late 19th, added to take over this function at which point the original section was converted to stabling. Its wide door was infilled with a narrower door and window. It now contains two cast iron loose boxes. The first floor of the building is approached by a set of external steps against the north gable end. The older section of the first floor is plastered with a fireplace in the gable. Harness pegs on the wall suggest it was a tack room, although it may also have provided accommodatioin for the groom.
