Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The map shows a yard to the north-east of the farmhouse, separated by an orchard. Ranges of buildings are depicted on all four sides of the yard, that on the south side being a south facing open fronted building. A horse engine house is shown on the north side of the barn on the north side of the yard.
Child, P., 2000, Countryside Stewardship: Waterhouse Farm, Exbourne (Correspondence). SDV366740.
A large double threshing barn in the upper yard. Built of red cob with a corrugated iron roof. It appears to have been built as an ordinary threshing barn but to have been extended into a double barn in the 18th century with the addition of a new section at its north-eastern end. The asymmetric placing of the the lower threshing door at the south-western end of the original section suggests that the building once extended further to the south-west. The roof on the older section of the barn has been replaced but the upper section has an 18th or early 19th roof which indicates that the lower section is probably older than 1750.
The barn originally stood in a separate yard to the house but the other older structures in the yard have now gone. There was also a horse engine house on the north side of the barn but this has now largely gone.
Ordnance Survey, 2026, Mastermap 2026 (Cartographic). SDV366713.
Building forming the north side of a yard the north-east of the farmhouse.
