Child, P., 2000, Countryside Stewardship: West Yeo Farm (Correspondence). SDV366743.

The farm complex at West Yeo is a good example of a late 19th century farmyard. It is still traditional in its components but shows elements borrowed from 'model' farm practices developed in the 19th century. The buildings are mostly constructed of local rubble stone the roofs were originally clad with slate.
The linhay or open fronted, lofted cattle shed (building 7) [on the north side of the yard] is a late example of its type. The upper floor is now entirely boarded. The two eastern bays form a separate compartment which seems to have been a granary linked the the adjacent corn barn on the east side of the yard (building 5).
The corn barn has its main threshing and access doors at the lower end rather than placed centrally. This is characteristic of later 19th century barns and probably reflects the fact that by this date most crop storage was external in rick yards and that the barn was used primarily for processing crops and storing them after processing rather than for storing unthreshed crops. Attached to the upper west side of the barn is the remains of a horse engine house (building 6).
On the south side of the barn is a lofted shippen (building 4). Its multiple doors have been widened and the roof is now clad with asbestos slate.
