Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
Ford Barton depicted. The farmstead comprises a courtyard range of buildings with an entranceway through the north range. The north range extends to the east forming the north side of an adjoining courtyard with outbuildings and a house forming the east side. To the west of the main farmyard is a separate barn with a horse engine house.

The buildings at Ford Barton form an impressive collection. They are associated with Stoodleigh Court which was built by architects George and Peto in 1883 and presumably are contemporary, although it is not clear if they too were designed by the architects. Although described as a planned group, the planning amounts to no more than the creation of two yards enclosed by buildings, rather than systematic planning. In this respect it is of interest that a large proportion of the buildings take the form of the traditional two storey, Devon linhay, something that one would not expect to see in a true, planned yard of this date.
The agents house which originally formed part of the complex is no longer associated with the farm buildings and there is a new farmhouse on the far side.
The buildings are constructed of local sandstone; the quarry is nearby with slate roofs.
Ordnance Survey, 2026, Mastermap 2026 (Cartographic). SDV366713.
The building at the eastern end of the north range is now a parish hall. The house has been divided into two: Ford House and Barton House. To the west of the threshing barn there is now another house, Ford Barton.
