A wooden direction post outside The Earl of Portsmouth Pub with a distintive wavy arm design showing the directions and mileage to Chumleigh, Eggesford, Cheldon, Gidley Arms and Tiverton. Marked as Portsmouth Arms Cross. Originally dating from c.1930-50 it was restored in the early 2000s.

Jenkinson, T., 2012, B3217/UC/B3042 Barnstaple to Crediton via High Bickington, Labbetts Cross and Morchard Bishop (Un-published). SDV366881.

Site visits 26th Ausut 2005 and April 2006. Finger post outside the Earl of Portsmouth pub in Chawleigh. Inscribed with the name Portsmouth Arms Cross and the directions and mileage to Chumleigh, Eggesford, Witheridge and Tiverton on the B3042 and also to Cheldon and Gidley Arms. A fascinating wooden direction post dating to c.1930-1950 with a distinctive wavy arm design. It looked to be in good condition when surveyed in 2005 but was later found to have rotted and needing to be replaced in April 2006. It was restored not long thereafter.
