Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Building depicted, gable end onto the lane. Recorded as a linhay (Plot 1037a) on the South Molton Tithe Apportionment.

Nettle Barn. Two storey stone barn with brick corners and reveals. Slated and corrugated iron hipped roof. Two doors in south side and a loft door. South facing. Converted in 2000.
These field barns, often referred to as linhays, are a distinctive feature of the area around South Molton. They are usually set near a gateway into a small pasture field. Most provide shelter for stock on the ground floor with storage space for fodder above.
