Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'Gidley Bridge' is depicted on the late 19th century historic map. Not clear whether it is shown on the 1840s Tithe Map as the overlap between parishes has obscured the map.

Gidley Bridge. Extant. This is the first bridge to span the Harbourne after it leaves the open moor. It is picturesquely sited under trees and simply built of random slate rubble with dressed granite arches and parapet coping stones. It shows no signs of widening or alteration.
The carriageway is tarmac 4 metres wide and the parapets 60 centimetres high at the ends rising to 90 centimetres in the centre, 30 centimetres wide. Occasional granite in the body of the bridge may be river boulders. The arch is a simple low curve with vertical side walls. There is no date stone and the bridge is not listed as a County bridge. At the south side are signs on an earlier ford.
