Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Field named Great Leeds Barrow for Plot No 300 on the 19th century Kingsteignton Tithe Map Apportionment.

Mitchell, M., 1979, Devon Committee for Rescue Archaeology: Ball clay survey of South Devon (Worksheet). SDV337798.

Visited on 22nd June 1979. Field totally overgrown with coarse vegetation and bushes. Nothing to be seen as a result. Now right on the edge of one of the large quarry pits, seperated only by track and bank of quarry waste material. Track past this field - John Acres Lane - now out of use for traffic and used as access track. To be covered eventually by tip from White Pit Quarry. Other details: No 56 on Worksheet No 43.

19th century 'Barrow' field names suggest that earthworks may have been visible in former times. Other details: Site 15.

No earthwork evidence of a barrow was noted on any of the aerial photographs available to the survey. The field, listed as Plot 300, Great Leeds Barrow on the Tithe Apportionment for Kingsteignton, has been completely removed by Preston Manor Clay Works (MDV52180), and any barrow located in this field would have been destroyed.
