HER Number:MDV14179
Name:Honiton Early Medieval Settlement

Summary

It has been suggested that the location of the Late Saxon settlement was in the vicinity of St. Michael's Church. The main arguments are firstly that the church was the parish church for Honiton until the 19th century and secondly that the medieval town in the valley is an example of a planted 'new' town. However, the church itself is not documented until 1406.
