Full description

Possible site of hut circle on tibbets hill (gardner).
NMR, CITING HISTORY OF LUNDY (1925, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV495.
The barrow on tibbets hill was examined by loyd in 1922. A roughly squared granite block was found to rest upon two similar blocks parallel to each other and at right angles to the first one. Two small pieces of flint were found in the earth (nmr, citing history of lundy (1925)12 + lundy bristol channel (1960)81, with no further reference).

Another, probable burial cairn (b:ss13864632) lies 51m to ne, on a small headland. It is composed of heather covered loose stones and earth 6.5m wide e-w and 5.5m n-s. Its height is 0.3m and it has a hollow in its centre (nmr, citing os). Probable hut sites have been noted on tibbets hill at ss13804628 and ss13854635 (nmr, citing gardner, 1968).

An iron age hut at middle park, tibbets hill, ss13864632, is possibly related to the adjacent field system (nmr, citing gardner, 1975).

An area of irregularly dispersed stone adjacent to a wall of the field system (ss14nw-051), immediately sw of lookout. May be remains of a hut circle (nt).

Vis=18/5/1962 (os) the published barrow (a:ss13834628) is a turf covered cairn of small loose stones, 11m in diam and 0.7m high.

Quinnel refers to a ring cairn at Middle Park which was reused as a hut circle. A similar reuse has also been recorded during excavations at Stannon Down on Bodmin Moor.
