Full description
Addyman, P. V., 1963, Interim Report on 1963 Excavations (Report - Interim). SDV230761.
Saxon burghal defensive bank. Excavated in 1963 (location of section uncertain, dmg). Bank consisted of a turf bank, and possible traces of a palisade post. Two phases of construction noted, the original turf wall having been strengthened by a wall of granite blocks with a core of rubble and mortar. Addyman also refers to two 'V' shaped ditches separated by a wall, but does not indicate whether these were in front or behind the bank.
