"thunder stone". A stone implement, more the shape of an adze than an axe, was found in the rubble of an old stone wall demolished at dornafield farm, ipplepen. The implement is in good condition and shows no sign of use. The south western implement petrology committee stated that it was made by a primitive people, perhaps from africa, australia, new zealand, or polynesia. It is certainly not british. Traditionally axes were inserted in walls to prevent the walls being struck by lightening. The wall stood on property once owned by the family of sir humphrey gilbert, the elizabethan explorer.(anon).
