GALLANT, L.M., Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV312684.
Vis=-/9/1978 (gallant, l. M. ). South whilborough farm. A group of fields on gently rising land. Up to ten years ago, in certain conditions of light, a number of parallel lines could just be detected (from a hill opposite) running parallel to the two roadways and along the contour, in an area covered by tithe map fields 949, 1023, and 1024. Bordering these fields on the east is a rectangular field in the parish of st. Marychurch, named on the tithe map 608, fifteen ridges.

A series of linear and parallel banks, circa 10m wide and northeast to southwest aligned, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1986 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The earthworks are in keeping with the historic field patterns depicted on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and several of the earthworks correspond with field boundaries on this map. Their closely spaced arrangement and situation on the moderate southeast facing combe slopes supports the interpretation they represent possible strip lynchets of medieval date.
