Summary
One of six cairns excavated between 1976-1979. Ring cairn given number 126. Ring cairn overlain by stones probably of a later date. A charcoal sample from a pit gave a radiocarbon date of 1400 +- 70bc (radiocarbon years). The charcoal content of an earlier undisturbed pit gave a radiocarbon date of 1450 +- 90bc (radiocarbon years). It seems that cairn 1 (sx56se/219/1) was built into cairn 126 at a later date.(wainwright et al).

Wainwright, g. J. + smith, k. + fleming, a. /pps/45(1979)1-33/the shaugh moor project. First report. One of six cairns excavated between 1976-1979. Ring cairn given number 126. Ring cairn overlain by stones probably of a later date. A charcoal sample from a pit gave a radiocarbon date of 1400 +- 70bc (radiocarbon years). The charcoal content of an earlier undisturbed pit gave a radiocarbon date of 1450 +- 90bc (radiocarbon years). It seems that cairn 1 (sx56se/219/1) was built into cairn 126 at a later date.(wainwright et al).
