GALLANT, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV943.

Coppice park, north whilborough limekiln. Vis=-/4/1978 (gallant). Situated away from any road, on brow of hill over looking stoneycombe. Devonian limestone area, tree covered. Flat vertical frontage with straight topped parapet rising 1.3m above top of furnace pit. Built right into hillside so that bank of hill on either side form a forecourt 2.5m deep. Detailed description on worksheet. Not marked on tithe map (1838) nor mentioned in (i) os (1890)6". Tithe apportionment, but in existence by 1890. In 1905 marked on map as "old lime kiln".
