A rectilinear structure circa 18 by 12m in size pierced by two circular holes circa 2.5m in diameter is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2015 within Palace Quarry, Chudleigh. The visible structures, partly obscured by tree cover on the more recent imagery, correspond with structures depicted on the late-19th century maps available to the survey and the Ordnance Survey MasterMap current at the time of survey. The visible structures were not transcribed by the survey.
The structures are probably the remains of lime kilns of probable 19th century date.

Limekilns about 40m south-east of Glen Cottage. Probably mid/late C19. Local grey limestone rubble. The kilns are sited in Palace Quarry. A large rectangular block of limestone rubble with a track leading on to the top of the block. Each of the 3 exposed sides of the block has a swallow with a rounded arch, the entrance on the west side leads into a long tunnel with subsidiary niches on the side walls. It is not entirely clear whether this structure is one or several kilns; the top is very overgrown but one, at least, is in working order. An impressive structure and clearly part of a large scale enterprise.
