Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 50 by 14m in size is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and 1950s, latterly under denser vegetation, and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, approximately 130m west-north-west of Bude Farm, Sparkwell.
The earthwork is interpreted an extractive pit, probably of post-medieval to 19th century date. The pit corresponds with an area of rough ground depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25inch First Edition map, which supports the interpretation that the earthwork was probably no longer in use by the mid-19th century.
It is possible that the visible earthwork is evidence of the tinworks described by the above authority (SDV137885).
The earthworks are obscured by dense vegetation on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2016.
