Chope, R. P., 1938, Devonshire Calendar Customs. Part 2. Fixed Festivals, 360 (Article in Serial). SDV348408.
A noticeable well called after St. Patrick. The village revel was held on St. Patrick's Day.
Brown, T., 1957, Holy and Notable Wells of Devon, 211 (Article in Serial). SDV304810.
Binnall, in an article in Devon and Cornwall Notes and Queries, 21, 1940-41, suggests that the well was originally St. Petrock's Well.
Salvatore, 1999, St. Patrick's Well (Dunkeswell) (Un-published). SDV348407.
Site visit 14th January 1999. A holy well known as St. Patrick's Well situated near the village centre opposite the village hall. In former times it was the focal point for a revel held on 17th March. The well has been restored as an ornamental feature with a trough placed over the capping and a cast iron pump protruding from the well head. Modern steps lead past the well to a gravelled area with an ornamental wall and seating. No ancient remains of the well are visible. Not recommended for scheduling.
