Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'B. S' shown on 19th century map.

Prowse, A. B., 1906, The Forest Bounds Near Princetown, 413 (Article in Serial). SDV250087.

Between North Hessery Tor and Great Mis Tor are nine granite boundary posts running in a straight line.

Harris, G. T., 1930-1931, Perambulation mark on Great Mis Tor., 262 (Article in Serial). SDV251699.

On the same alignment as these stones Harris found an iron bar fixed in granite on Great Mis Tor, bearing the letters 'F. B.' , perhaps indicating "forest boundary".

Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Two - The North, 81, Map 30 (Monograph). SDV219155.

From Rundlestone Cottages to Great Mis Tor a line of six roughly shaped pillars, all unlettered, mark the boundary between the Forest and Walkhampton. Great Mis Tor was one of the original stations of the 1240 Perambulation of the Forest but it was only in 1702 that the 'Rundle Stone' was included as a boundary point. This stone was destroyed at the end of the 18th century but was probably originally erected as a waymark on the north side of the road to Tavistock, a short distance east of the present Forest boundary. Ogilbys map of 1675 depicts it as 'a great stone called Roundle' standing on a mound on the summit of the hill. It had the letter 'R' cut into one face and measured over 2 metres high when Crossing examined it in about 1881, a few years before it was removed.

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1993-1998, Dartmoor Royal Forest Project (Report - Survey). SDV346608.

(16/09/1994) SX57427498. An upright stone located on the south side of the B3357 at Rundlestone marks the boundary of the Dartmoor Forest and Walkhampton parishes. This flat-topped moorland stone measures 1.3metres high, 0.35 metres wide and 0.3 metres thick. There is no obvious inscription but this stone is one of six on a line from Rundlestone to Great Mis Tor
