Summary

Itton thorne. There is a ruinous outbuilding here which looks as if it might once have been a private chapel. Itton is one of the three manors of south tawton noted by polwhele c.1797.(lega-weekes). A domesday manor, name not given, more recently known as yedeton manor.(reichel). The name of itton is said to derive from eddida, widow of edward the confessor, whose mother githa, held the manor of south tawton in dower (lega-weekes).
