Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Group of four buildings around an irregular shaped yard with a small building to the north and a rectangular building to the south. The Apportionment for 'Roughbrook' lists Field Number 2179 as 'House & Waste' and Field Number 2180 also as 'House & Waste'.

Rowbrook is first mentioned as 'Robroke' in 1291 in the Taxatio Ecclesiastica. By 1671 it had become 'Rowbrookes' in the Recovery Rolls. It probably means 'roe brook'.
